- Choose a position that receives full sun and has fertile, well-drained soil.
- Plant each corm approximately 4–6 cm deep, with the small claws pointing downwards.
- Space the corms approximately 10–15 cm apart.
- Water thoroughly after planting. Thereafter, water when the upper layer of soil begins to dry, but never allow the corms to sit in waterlogged soil.
- Once shoots appear, feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks.
- Pick flowers regularly or remove spent blooms to encourage continued flowering.

Ranunculus FAQ
When should I plant ranunculus in South Africa?
Ranunculus corms are planted during the cooler months in South Africa. Aim to plant from approximately March or April through to early June, depending on the temperatures and frost conditions in your area. This gives the plants sufficient cool growing time before they flower from late winter into spring.
Do I need to soak ranunculus corms before planting?
Yes. Dried ranunculus corms look like tiny claws or octopus legs when they arrive. Soak them in room-temperature water for approximately 2–3 hours before planting. This allows the corms to absorb moisture and plump up. Do not leave them soaking overnight, as this can increase the risk of rot.
How deep and how far apart should I plant ranunculus?
Plant ranunculus corms approximately 4–6 cm deep, with the claws pointing down. Space them 10–15 cm apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Ranunculus grow and flower best in full sun and do not tolerate waterlogged soil.
Can I grow ranunculus in pots?
Yes. Ranunculus grow very well in pots and containers, provided the container has excellent drainage. Use a high-quality, free-draining potting mixture and position the container in full sun. Avoid allowing water to collect around the corms.
Will ranunculus survive frost?
Ranunculus can generally tolerate light frost, but hard frost may damage young growth. In very cold areas, protect plants with frost cloth on icy nights or adjust your planting time to avoid the harshest conditions. In milder South African winter climates, ranunculus are usually happy growing outdoors.
When will my ranunculus flower?
Ranunculus planted during autumn or early winter generally flower from late winter into spring. The exact flowering time depends on your climate, planting date and growing conditions, but most ranunculus begin flowering approximately 90–120 days after planting.
Will every pack contain exactly the same colours?
No. Coral Crush is a specially selected colour mix containing coral, peach, salmon and medium-to-deep pink ranunculus. The exact shades and proportions will vary naturally between packs. This variation is part of the beauty of growing a mixed ranunculus collection.
When will my ranunculus corm pre-order be shipped?
Ranunculus corms are seasonal and are dispatched at the correct planting time for South Africa. Pre-orders for this product will begin shipping from March 2027. Orders are packed and dispatched in batches, and tracking details will be provided as soon as your parcel leaves us.
