About this workshop
A Blooming Good Shot – Learn Cellphone Photography with Jaco Powell is designed to help you take much better photos with the camera you always have with you – your phone.
Hosted in the hall of the English church in Douglas, this workshop combines indoor teaching with real-world practice in the dahlia fields during golden hour.
Workshop format
The workshop runs in two parts:
-
Indoor session – theory and practical tips (±3 hours)
In the FROGG church hall, Jaco will guide you through:-
How to get the best out of your phone camera
-
Simple settings and focusing tips
-
Light, composition and angles that make a big difference
-
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
-
How to photograph flowers, people and details in a way that feels more intentional
This part is relaxed and interactive, with time for questions.
-
-
Golden hour in the dahlia fields – practical session
After the indoor session, the group will visit the Love Dahlias fields.
Here you will:-
Photograph the dahlias during golden hour
-
Practise what you’ve learned with Jaco on hand to help
-
Learn how to handle changing light as the sun goes down
-
Get tips on framing, movement, close-ups and backgrounds in a real flower field
-
You’ll leave with better images on your phone and a clearer idea of how to think when you take photos in future.
