About this experience

The Early Morning Dahlia Walk with Mareli is a slow, private walking tour through the dahlia fields at Love Dahlias Farm, just outside Douglas.

In a small group, you’ll walk the rows with Mareli as the day starts, look closely at the flowers, talk about varieties and growing tips, and see how the working dahlia field is managed for both beauty and production.

Because the group is limited, there’s time for questions, conversation and proper photos – not just a quick rush past the blooms.

What to expect on the walk

During this early morning field walk, you will:

  • Meet Mareli at the farm and head into the dahlia field together

  • Walk slowly up and down the rows while the light is still soft

  • Hear how the field is planned, planted and managed through the season

  • Look at different flower forms, colours and heights and how they’re used for cutting

  • Talk about practical growing tips for South African conditions

  • Have time to ask your own questions about tubers, soil, staking, watering and more

  • Take photos in the field while it is still quiet and cool

This is not a formal classroom session – it’s a real-life walk with a working flower farmer, where you can ask what you’ve always wanted to ask about dahlias.

About Mareli

Mareli Visser is the owner of Love Dahlias in Douglas, Northern Cape – a small, specialised dahlia and bulb farm.

She is best known online for sharing honest, practical advice about growing dahlias in South African gardens, and offline for walking the same rows you’ll see on this tour almost every day of the season.

The early morning walk is your chance to see the field through her eyes and talk directly with the person who plants, stakes, picks and packs the dahlias you see on the website.
