About this workshop

Sip, paint, and leave with dahlias on paper that you’ll actually want to frame.

Sip & Paint Watercolor Dahlias is a relaxed, guided watercolour workshop with South African artist Jess Meyer (Watercolour Heart Illustration). Jess makes watercolour feel simple and achievable — and she’s taught over 400 students through online courses and in-person workshops.

Expect a calm morning of Mojito's, blooms, and creativity, with step-by-step teaching that builds confidence as you go.

About Jess Meyer & Watercolour Heart Illustration

Jess Meyer is a South African watercolour artist, surface pattern designer, and educator behind Watercolour Heart Illustration, with a special love for florals.

She creates softly detailed, story-led artwork designed for licensing and custom collaborations across products like fabric, homeware, and children’s goods — blending heirloom charm with modern colour palettes. As a teacher, Jess is known for calm, practical guidance paired with heart-led encouragement, helping creatives build confidence in both craft and business through workshops and online courses.

What you will learn

  1. Loose dahlia painting made simple
Jess will teach clear, simple steps to paint a range of dahlia varieties in a loose, expressive style.

  2. Foundations that make everything easier
Basic watercolour technique and floral brushstroke practice, before moving into more detailed dahlia exercises.

  3. Colour mixing and creating your own palettes
How to mix paint so your florals look soft, natural, and beautifully “you”.

  4. Layering and flow techniques
Transparent washes, glazing, and wet-on-wet methods to create depth without overworking your painting.

  5. Brush control for petals and movement
Including the S-curve and C-curve push-and-pull technique to shape loose petals with confidence.

  6. Building complex flowers from simple shapes
A repeatable method you can keep using at home.
